The issue of school safety is a shared concern. Today, more than ever, it is essential that school personnel, students, parents, and communities work together to promote a safe learning environment.

The Le Sueur-Henderson School District has in place a Crisis Management Plan to provide guidelines, structure, and a process in dealing with a range of crisis situations which may interrupt the normal operation of school at our building sites and/or in our community. The plan provides a process to deal with any situation that has the potential to result in physical injury to one or more students, staff, or community members.

Possession of Weapon on School Property

For the purposes of this policy, a weapon is a loaded or unloaded firearm, any device designed as a weapon and capable of producing death or great bodily harm, or any flammable liquid or other device or instrumentality that, in the manner it is used or intended to be used, is calculated or likely to produce death or great bodily harm. A possession of a weapon on school property will result in an immediate suspension pending investigation.

Weapons Defined

All firearms, including pellet guns and bb guns, look-alike or replicas of any weapons, any knife, including all pocket knives, matches or explosives, including fireworks, any flammable liquid, including lighters, lighter fluid, gasoline, laser pointers, razor blades, darts, bow and arrows and any object used with the intent to cause bodily harm.

Harassment and Violence

District 2397 School Board Policy prohibits any form of sexual, religious, or racial harassment or violence. It shall be a violation of these school policies for any student, employee, or agent of the District to harass a student, employee, or agent of the District through conduct or communication of a sexual nature or regarding religion and race as defined by these policies. It shall also be a violation of these policies for any student, employee, or agent of the District to inflict, threaten to inflict, or attempt to inflict violence of a sexual nature or violence regarding religion or race upon any student, employee, or agent of the District.

Violation of these policies will be cause for disciplinary action. Students who are victims of alleged sexual harassment or violence should report it to the building principal. All reports will be investigated and proper disciplinary action will be taken when appropriate.

Trespass on School Property

Definitions and Exceptions:

Any person who enters or is found on school property shall be classified as unauthorized and shall be subject to removal and lawful prosecution. The four conditions under which a person may enter or be in a school building are:

• the person is an enrolled student in, a parent or guardian of an enrolled student in, an employee of the school or school district, or a member of his/her immediate family;

• the person has permission or an invitation from a school official to be in the building;

• the person is attending a school event, class, or meeting to which the person, the public, or a student’s family is invited; or

• has reported the person’s presence in the school building in the manner required for visitors to the school.
